Important News for clubs from the Director of Grassroots Football

Spring 2013 will see the roll out of a nationwide Club Survey. The survey will be used to get feedback from clubs on a wide range of topics with a view to developing a club support programme to guide and assist clubs achieve what they want to achieve in their communities. Information can help us in relation to lobbying government for more support for clubs, improve coach education delivery and grow the game in Ireland

The survey will be in the form of a short online questionnaire and will be user friendly enough so that no club should have difficulty completing it. Clubs are the very heart of football in Ireland so it is essential that we listen to them and understand how best to support them in the future. It is essential that all clubs complete the survey and your league’s help in encouraging them to do so is vital. We will be in touch soon with more information.

2. As you may be aware, McDonald’s are heavily involved in football and work closely with the national associations and clubs in Northern Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales, as well as their links to football globally through UEFA and FIFA. We are pleased to announce that McDonald’s Ireland have now teamed up with the FAI to develop and roll out a brand new club support programme called McDonald’s Future Football.

In year one, a small number of clubs will participate in the programme. There is no cost for doing so and clubs involved will benefit from a range of new activities, resources and coach education never before available.
I would be very grateful if you could let your clubs know about this and if they are interested in participating in the first year of the programme, they should email

3. You may also be aware, the Summer Soccer Schools format is changing in 2013. We want to make the camps more affordable so the price is coming down by €30 approximately. There will be a flat registration fee this year of €65. Clubs can earn €30 per participant and out of this €30 clubs look after coach payments and provide the venue. This is a great way for clubs to generate extra revenue and attract new members. There are parts of the country that wouldn’t traditionally run the summer camps and we hope that clubs in these areas may see the benefit for themselves and the young people in their communities. Thank you and best wishes
