Danone Cup Regional Qualifiers:

Killarney Celtic and Kingdom Boys represented the Kerry Schoolboys Girls League in the Danone Cup Regional Qualifier, the National Blitz competition for Under 11’s.

The competition took place in Newcastlewest with the teams divided into Groups of three. There was no luck for Kingdom Boys as they lost out narrowly in their two group games. However Killarney Celtic were having a much better time defeating Templemore 2-0 in the first game (Kasper Malinowski and Patrick Warren) and then Newcastlewest Rovers 1-0 thanks to a Thande Dube goal.

Into the semi final against Croom and it went all the way to penalties with the Kerry boys coming out 4-3 winners.

The final saw Killarney Celtic face Mungret, who had also qualified from their semi finals after a penalty shoot-out.

The game finished 1-1 after extra time and once again Killarney Celtic got the better of the penalty shoot-out winning 3-2 with keeper Mark Harnett saving a spot kick.

Celtic now qualify for the National Finals which will take place in the AUL Complex in Dublin in mid June with the winners there getting a trip to the World Finals in Spain.

This completed a great week for a number of this Celtic team who were also winners of the National Schools competition in mid week.
