With the 2014 Macron Galway Cup now over both Kerry teams that took part in the 2001 section can look back on a good weeks work.
From a League point of view its importance is in the on-going development of the players, while being competitive at the same time.
The teams rounded out their competitions today and fourth place is where both finished.
First into action was the Boys team in the Plate Final. After finishing second in the Group Kerry faced Mervue Utd in what turned into a cracking game.
After a scoreless first half Kerry went 1-0 down in the 5th minute of the second half.
However they turned it around with goals from JR and Keith Suiter.
It looked like Kerry would hold on but a great free kick saw the game going to penalties.
Both sides scored their first 3 penalties, missed their next and then sored the next two to leave it level 6 penalties a piece after 7 spot kicks.
Sadly Kerry missed their 7th and Mervue scored to take the Plate.
They end with a record of 2 wins, 2 draws and just 1 loss on sudden death penalties.
The Elite team did very well to reach the semi finals from a very tough group. The loss to Cavan / Monaghan was tough with the goal coming in the last minute.
Kerry faced Donegal in today’s 3rd / 4th place play-off and in a very tight encounter they went down to a solitory goal.
Coaches Brendan Hogan, Padraig McCannon, Jonathan Hannafin and Tadgh Healy were delighted with the committment and attitude of all the players.
It is hoped that the majority, if not all, of these players now go into the u14 ETP and continue their development.
