There was no doubt what the highlight of the first weekend was – the winning debut by Rattoo Rovers in the Killarney Plaza 15 Division 2.
Killorglin B the first leaders in 13 Division 1:
The opening day of the 2016/2017 season saw plenty of goals in the Daly’s Supervalu 13 Division 1. Killorglin were very strong at 12’s last season and their B team at 13’s opened with a strong win over Killarney Athletic B.
Oisin Lynch hit an opening day hat-trick, Liam Roche got two and these were added to by goals from Joe Langham, Anthony Barrett and Senan O’Meara’s wonder strike that was the pick of the bunch.
Dara Looney scored for Athletic who tried hard and had some good perfomances from the likes of Sam Bulger, Marc Long and Jack Maguire.
There was a goal fest in Dingle where the home side went down 6-4 to Ballyheigue. Dingle Bay Rovers goals came from Ryan Scanlon Newstead who got 2, James Hoare and Aaron Hughes.
Goals from Bobby Breen, David O’Sullivan and 4 from man of the match Feilim O’Sullivan gave Ballyheigue the three points on the opening day.
Listowel Celtic C sole winners in 13 Division 2:
There was only one game in Division 2 where Listowel Celtic C made their trip to LB Rovers a winning one. Jack Enright got 4 and Cormac Dillon 3 for Listowel Celtic C while Cian Sheehy hit both for the home side.
Celtic takes opening day derby win in 15’s Premier:
The Killarney derby saw Celtic welcome Athletic to Celtic Park for what turned out to be a cracking game. Both teams did well with Terry Sparling’s clinical finishing the difference between the sides as he hit both in Celtic’s win.
Home wins in 15’s Division 1:
Ballyhar opened their account with a first day win at home in Murt Scott Park. They defeated Mastergeeha 3-0 thanks to goals from Jason Brennan, Patrick O’Connor and Craig Boyle.
Camp Juniors also picked up three points at home as they were 4-1 winners over Ballyheigue for whom Seamie Foran scored. However a Maurice O’Connell hat-trick, as he carried on a great scoring tradition from last season, and one from Adam O’Donnell saw the home side take all three points.
Rattoo win on League debut:
The League is delighted to welcome new clubs in each year and this year Rattoo Rovers are the newcomers. However they made an instant impact as they enjoyed a 2-1 home win over Fenit.
JP Carroll put Rattoo ahead but Ciaran Ryan equalised. Dylan Moriarty then came off the bench to write his name in Rattoo Rovers history as he hit the winner on a great day for the club that has been an integral part of the Kerry District League for many years.
St Bernard’s were too strong for Park C and had goals from Dara O’Connell, Jack Bourke, Mikey Clifford, Ronan Walsh, Oisin Maunsell and Jake Brosnan as they laid down an early marker as one of the teams to watch in this Division.
