Will Group 7 be heaven at the Kennedy Cup

Will 7 be Heaven for Kerry at Kennedy Cup 2012:

The Kennedy Cup is fast approaching with a kick off of June 11th meaning that while Ireland are at Euro 2012 the cream of the countries 13’s will be in action at the UL in Limerick.

The draw was done at the SFAI meeting in Cavan and Kerry were in Pot 2 as second seeds. The Kingdom are in Group 7 and are paired with Galway as the top seeds in the Group. 3rd seeds are South Tipperary with Athlone as the fourth seeds.

The games line-up will see Kerry open their campaign on Monday against Athlone before a double header on Tuesday against South Tipperary in the morning and Galway in the afternoon in what will hopefully be for a place in the Last 8.

The carrot for the winners of the Group looks like being a clash with the DDSL who are odds on to top Group 8 where they will play Carlow, the South Dublin League and Mayo.

If Kerry finish second in their Group they will go into the Bowl section for places 9th to 15th and will face the runners up from Group 3 which is made up of Midlands, Drogheda, Kilkenny and the North Eastern Counties in the first of the knock-out games.

Other Groups of interest sees Cork, who are one of the eight top seeds, heading Group 1 alongside Wicklow, Cavan / Monaghan and Limerick County.

Limerick Desmond’s Group 5 has them in with Waterford, West Cork and Sligo/Leitrim.

Kerry are continuing their preparations for the tournament and recently had a very good performance against the FAI’s Under 15 Regional Centre. They will have a number of friendly’s in the run up to June including taking part in the Clare Tournament and will also have a trip away.
